Just thinking about all of the tasks you have to complete as you transition from your old home to your new one is probably giving you a migraine. From getting pre-approved and choosing a realtor to looking at houses and transferring all of your belongings from one property to another, you may feel that the process is never-ending while you’re in the middle of it.
Thankfully, there are several moving apps that come in handy as you embark on this incredibly stressful endeavor. Some are great as you house-hunt while others are essential as you settle into your new home.
1. Mint lets you manage your money efficiently, because you can see how much money you are spending each day and when your bills are due. Even though this app is useful for those who aren’t planning on moving, it is especially helpful if you’re trying to save more money for a larger down payment or to improve your credit score so you can get pre-approved for a mortgage. (iOS, Android; Free)
2. Homesnap is great when you’re in the very early stages of moving and you’re just looking for a home. Hiring a realtor can take some of the pressure off you, but that doesn’t mean you cannot take part in the search yourself to find a practical home that meets all your needs. With Homesnap, you can take a picture of a property you’re interested in and find out details about it, including the number bedrooms and bathrooms and that area’s school ratings. (iOS, Android; Free)
3. Any.do is like your own personal assistant. It manages all of the tasks you need to complete as you prepare to move. Using this, you can map out a set schedule and stay on track, even as your to-do list lengthens. (iOS, Android, Chrome, Web, Desktop; Free)
4. Sortly is useful as you start the (dreadful) packing process once you’ve found the home of your dreams. This part of moving is a massive undertaking. None of us really has a clear idea of how much stuff we have accumulated over the years until we have to go through it all while facing a deadline. Sortly is an app that allows you to stay organized as you try to keep track of everything you own, as well as what items you already packed and what items you still need to look through. (iOS; Free)
5. Moving Van is similar to Sortly, but it also monitors what items are packed where. This will make unpacking a great deal easier because you’ll know where everything is. Gone are the days when you frantically look for your cell phone chargers only to find that they are buried at the bottom of the box with all of your winter clothes. (iOS; $1.99)
6. TaskRabbit is a platform that helps you find hired help for short term projects around the house and which is helpful for almost any moving-related task. Get help packing, cleaning your new apartment (or your old one), or assembling new furniture. Rates for help vary based on location, so download the free app for more information. (iOS, Android; Free)
